New Orleans Starts to Show Some Life

On sunday night when we arrived in Mandeville, we dropped off our bags and headed across the 24 mile bridge from Mandeville to New Orleans to check out the damage . After visiting the Lakeview area which sits between the two levees that broke, we decided to go into the French Quarter to see if the Music/Cultural center of the great city was still there. We were happy to see that there was relatively little visible damage. One of the things we saw which gave us hope was a small impromptu parade thrown together. The parade featured a small band like most parades followed by small float of sorts. While the crowd was small, it was enthusiastic. |
