This Baptist church has been washed clean by the flood waters. This a very large building right on the coast (on highway 90 across from where the casinos USED to be) in Gulf Port, MS. This town was one of the worst hit. We are working here at a small Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The Disciples are our sponsoring organization. The three of us, Laureen, Lenore and Kevin are members of Downey Avenue Christian church in Irvington and were spiritually and financially supported by our family at Downey. The kind of destruction we are seeing here is different than what we've been seeing and working on in LA. The damage here is primarily from wind as opposed to water (althoughthere is plenty of water damage as well). In Louisiana the homes looked ok from the outside other than the thin film of gray over everything. It was only once you got inside that you saw (and smelled) the immense damage. Here the damage is obviuous from the outside. The places were ripped by huge winds and THEN were flooded. |
